We’re excited to welcome your family to Kazakhstan International School. Our admissions are on a rolling basis, and spaces fill up quickly, so we encourage early applications. Our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Kazakhstan International School (KIS) welcomes students of all nationalities to join our diverse community and experience the advantages of an exceptional international education in the heart of Almaty, Kazakhstan. After submitting an online application using OpenApply, you will have an application portal account with an electronic checklist of items required to finalize the application.

Important Dates

The application opens on August 1 of the preceding school year. Kazakhstan International School accepts applications year-round and makes placements on a rolling basis where space is available. Many grade levels fill up by April for the first semester, so families are encouraged to apply as early as possible or check with the Admissions Office about space availability.

Additional documentation is required to complete your application. After you fill out the first part of the application form in OpenApply, a checklist will be provided with the additional steps to complete your application. Your application will only be considered as complete once all required documents have been received. If your child is accepted, further documents will be needed to finalize enrollment. These are also listed below to help you prepare in advance.

Once you complete Step 1 and submit the application form via OpenApply, a personalized checklist will appear for uploading the required documents noted below. Once all documents are submitted, our Admissions team will contact you to arrange the assessment and interview.

Once you receive your acceptance letter from our Admissions Office, you will be required to upload the following documentation to OpenApply in order to officially enroll at KIS.

1. KIS Educational Services Agreement

To secure your child’s place and begin the enrollment process, the KIS Education Services Agreement must be signed.

The Admission and Reservation Fee are required to confirm your acceptance and secure your child’s place at KIS.

Once your application is complete and all required documentation has been received, you will move on to Phase 2 of the admissions process, which includes student assessments and student interviews depending on the grade level.

Admissions Assessments

Assessments are administered depending on the grade level your child is applying to. These assessments help us understand each student’s learning profile and language readiness, ensuring appropriate placement and support.

Both assessments typically take 2–3 hours in total, depending on your child’s age and pace. No preparation is required, and our Admissions Team will contact you directly to arrange scheduling.

Assessment	Description
CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test)	Evaluates how students think and learn, helping us identify strengths and support their development.
English Proficiency Assessment:	Measures understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills to ensure readiness for an English-speaking academic environment.

Interview

All applicants participate in a 30-minute in-person interview. This conversation helps us understand each student’s interests, personality, and readiness for our learning environment, while giving families a chance to ask questions.

The Admissions Team will reach out directly to coordinate.

Early Years: EY Principal
Grades 1-5: Elementary Principal
Grades 6-10: Secondary Principal
Grades 11-12: DP Coordinator

4. Admissions Decision

Admissions decisions are determined exclusively by the Admissions Committee. In reviewing each applicant, the committee evaluates academic history, behavioral background, level of English proficiency, potential requirements for support services, and the extent to which the school’s environment and educational approach align with the needs of the student and their family.
