Adiya's Exhibition: The Unseen and the Unheard

As part of the DP Visual Arts Exhibition, Grade 12 student Adiya presented a thought-provoking collection of works exploring the theme The Unseen and the Unheard.

Through her exhibition, Adiya investigates the emotions and experiences that people often carry quietly—struggles that may remain hidden from view despite having a profound impact on daily life. Her work explores the contrast between internal emotional realities and outward appearances, highlighting how feelings of isolation, anxiety, and emotional pressure can remain unnoticed by others.

Using a variety of media, including photography, painting, and clay, Adiya expresses these complex emotions in different ways. Some works communicate their message subtly, while others take on a more intense and physical presence. Together, the pieces create a journey that guides viewers from external observations toward increasingly personal and internal emotional states.

One of the most significant works in the exhibition is Wired Down, a sculptural piece featuring a wire necklace placed around the neck. The work symbolizes vulnerability and the feeling of being silenced. The tightly wrapped wires create a sense of restriction and pressure, reflecting how emotional and social struggles can feel physically suffocating even when they are invisible to those around us. For Adiya, this piece serves as the emotional center of the exhibition because it transforms an unseen experience into something tangible and immediate.

Through The Unseen and the Unheard, Adiya encourages viewers to look beyond what is visible on the surface and consider the hidden challenges that others may be facing. Her exhibition is a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy, understanding, and awareness in our interactions with one another.
